From true haunted tales and film adaptations of famous novels to hilarious jewel heists and action films galore, the new year will be bringing tons of star-studded, highly entertaining films your way. This cinematic lineup is so good, that we wouldn't be surprised if it makes you rethink that New Year's resolution to read more books.

An origin movie about the most haunted house in history, Winchester Mansion, comes to life on the big screen. Helen Mirren stars as Sarah Winchester who, in 1884, began transforming the original farm house to a mega real estate to thwart evil spirits. Was she successful after spending $5 million dollars for the construction of the mansionโ€™s 160 rooms, 2,000 doors, 10,000 windows, 9 kitchens, 13 bathrooms, and 47 stairways? We canโ€™t wait to find out!

โ€œBlack Pantherโ€ โ€” Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyongโ€™o, directed by Ryan Coogler


Embodied by Chadwick Boseman, Tโ€™Challa, the first mainstream black superhero who made his first appearance in the 2016 superhero ensemble film, โ€œCaptain America: Civil Warโ€ is now set to thrill audiences in his first solo film, titled โ€œBlack Panther.โ€ The upcoming movie follows the adventures of the superhero in his native Wakanda upon the death of his father, King Tโ€™Chaka, as he is faced with political tensions when he takes his rightful place as the new ruling monarch of the technologically advanced African nation.

โ€œAnnihilationโ€ โ€” Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac, directed by Alex Garland


A film adaptation of Jeff VanderMeerโ€™s best-selling novel of the same name, the fantasy-adventure horror film stars Natalie Portman as a biologist who sets out on an expedition into an environmental disaster zone, from which no explorers have ever returned intact. We expect the movie to be mind-blowing, much like writer-director Alex Garlandโ€™s 2014 film โ€œEx-Machina.โ€

โ€œRed Sparrowโ€ โ€” Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, directed by Francis Lawrence


Jennifer Lawrence stars as a Russian-ballerina-turned spy in Francis Lawrenceโ€™s โ€œRed Sparrow,โ€ based on Jason Matthewsโ€™ spy thriller novel of the same name. In the movie, complications arise when Dominika Egorova (Lawrence) falls for the American mole, CIA agent Nathaniel Nash (Joel Edgerton). Will she become a double agent because of her love interest?

โ€œA Wrinkle in Timeโ€ โ€” Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Khaling, directed by Ava DuVernay


Based on Madeleine Lโ€™Engleโ€™s sci-fi fantasy novel, โ€œA Wrinkle in Timeโ€ follows Meg (Storm Reid) and her two siblings as they set off on a space odyssey to save their father from a menacing evil. But first, they must join forces with three magical beings โ€” Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) and Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) โ€” as they travel across the universe. The first sci-fi feature of Ava DuVernay (who also directed โ€œSelmaโ€) promises to be fantastic, to say the least.

A reboot of the video game franchise, โ€œTomb Raiderโ€ reconstructs the origins of Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), the daughter of a wealthy and eccentric man who disappeared when she was a teenager. Now 21 years old, Croft is more determined than ever to solve her father's mysterious disappearance and death. How, exactly? She sets off on a perilous journey to a fabled island somewhere off the coast of Japan, where the stakes are high as she fights for her life.

With Steven S. DeKnight taking over the directorial reins from Guillermo del Toro, the โ€œPacific Rimโ€ franchise returns with yet another battle royale between the evil Kaiju monsters and the gigantic robots piloted by the Pan Pacific Defense Corpsโ€™ Jaegers. The sequel picks up 10 years after the events of the original movie with Jake Pentecost (John Boyega) leading a new generation of human pilots to defend Earth from Kaijuโ€™s uprising.

The โ€œStar Warsโ€ standalone film takes place before the events of 1977โ€™s โ€œStar Wars: A New Hope.โ€ Starring Alden Ehrenreich in the titular role, the prequel tells the early adventures of our favorite space smuggler, made famous by Harrison Ford, including his encounters with space rogue Lando Calrissian, played by Danny Glover.

If youโ€™re wondering about the plot, it is top secret. But expect more 4th-wall breaking shenanigans from the superhero.

A spin-off of the โ€œOceanโ€™s Elevenโ€ franchise, this female-centric film centers around Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), the estranged sister of Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney in the original movie), who, along with her bestie (Cate Blanchett), assembles a crew of eight women to attempt to pull off the heist of the century at New York Cityโ€™s yearly Met Gala.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reunite for another wild adventure in the sequel to 2015โ€™s โ€œJurassic World.โ€ This time around, the duo will attempt to save the remaining dinosaurs roaming freely on the island of Isla Nublar, four years after the events of the first movie took place.

The details of his next mission may be shrouded in secrecy, but we can certainly say that โ€œSupermanโ€ actor Henry Cavill is confirmed to appear in the movie. His role? Itโ€™s another top secret, making it all of our missions to go see the movie.
