“The Dark Tower” — Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, directed by Nikolaj Arcel

A film adaptation of Stephen King's famed "Dark Tower" series, "The Dark Tower" is a hybrid of fantasy, sci-fi, Western and horror. Idris Elba stars as gunslinger Roland Deschain, who goes on a quest to a dark tower to save the world from Man in Black, a sorcerer portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. The movie, which is directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, is visually thrilling, and both of the stars are highly convincing — to say the least.

See it. Just don’t expect the movie to be a word-for-word depiction of the author’s eight-book magnum opus.

“Step” — Blessin Giraldo, Cori Granger, Tayla Solomon, directed by Amanda Lipitz

Sundance documentary winner “Step” follows a group of young women who are members of a girls' high-school step dance team in the heart of Baltimore. Faced with economic hardships, these young women find strength and solace in their team and become the first in their families to go to college. This true story is a crowd-pleaser — you can’t help but to keep cheering these ladies on!

See it. If you really think you have it tough, “Step” will make you to think again.

“Wind River” — Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, directed by Taylor Sheridan

Set against the freezing backdrop of Wyoming’s wilderness, “Wind River” stars Elizabeth Olsen as an FBI agent who partners up with a town’s game tracker (played by Jeremy Renner) to investigate and solve the mystery behind a local girl's death. While director Taylor Sheridan's “Sicario” was gripping, and “Hell or High Water” was sublime, this third and final film in his American Frontier trilogy is totally riveting.

See it. The movie's outstanding performances and clever screenplay will give you visceral chills.

“Kidnap” — Halle Berry, Sage Correa, directed by Luis Prieto

Halle Berry stars as a mother in hot pursuit of her young son’s abductors. Come hell or high water, she's determined to do whatever it takes to save her kid from imminent danger. Disappointingly, this action-fueled thriller is a tad too predictable.

Skip it. Even the stellar performance from the Oscar-winning actress can’t save the film.
