“Life of the Party” is the third collaboration between real-life married couple Melissa McCarthy and director Ben Falcone following their comedic films “The Boss,” and “Tammy.”
In the film, McCarthy plays Deanna, a woman who is faced with a mid-life crisis after a sudden divorce from her husband of 22 years. So, what now? Well, she decides to reboot herself. First, she gets herself re-enrolled to complete her college degree, landing in the same class and school as her daughter, Maddie (Molly Gordon). Then the mom transforms herself from Deanna to Dee Rock — to become the life of the party.
See it. McCarthy will provide you with a good dose of comic relief — just don’t expect too much out of this predictable movie.

However, what promises to be a soul-searching trip turns into horror when her kids get nabbed by creepy home invaders. Using her smarts and physicality, our heroine is hell-bent on breaking in to get her kids out.

“Revenge” — Matilda Lutz, Kevin Janssens, directed by Coralie Fargeat
What happens when a romantic getaway turns into a grim fairy tale? This is the premise of Coralie Fargeat’s directorial debut, “Revenge,” which stars up-and-comer Matilda Lutz as a young woman who becomes a deadly warrior in search of retribution against her male sexual assailants.
While Jen (Lutz) is enjoying a fancy interlude in the desert with her hunky boyfriend (Kevin Janssens), his sleazy hunting buddies unexpectedly turn up. Sometime later, tensions rise in the luxury estate, leaving Jen for dead. However, she survives and re-emerges with toxic fury and vengeance seeping through her veins.
See it. The hauntingly stylish movie reveals Lutz’s electrifying ferocity and Fargeat’s adroit touch behind the camera. Be forewarned: Some scenes are quite gory.
