On Aug. 11, 2014, the world lost an acting legend. Throughout his career, Robin Williams starred in countless films, was nominated for four Oscars and had an impeccable knack for quick-witted improv.
It seemed like there was nothing Williams couldn't do. While often hailed as a comedic genius, he was equally as talented in his more dramatic roles. He was also every bit as convincing as the protagonist as he was as the villain. No matter what he played, he brought depth and emotion to each of his characters.

#5 โDead Poets Societyโ (1989)
Set in the 1950s, this is a movie about free thinking and individualism. 2Williams portrayed a passionate and unorthodox poetry teacher who inspires his students to spread their wings and seek out extraordinary lives. The actorโs effortlessly magnetic performance in this film earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

#4 โInsomniaโ (2002)
An edgy psychological thriller, โInsomniaโ is a murder mystery about the death of a 17-year-old girl in a remote Alaskan town. With his portrayal of suspect Walter Finch, the late actorโs against-type casting was a big surprise to all. By the end, his take on the multi-layered creepy persona was critically acclaimed.

#3 โAladdinโ (1992)
We don't think we'll ever be too old for the classic animated film โAladdin." Williamsโ portrayal of Genie in this movie was hailed by many critics as quintessential. He obviously set the bar for voice-over acting very high with an ad-libbed performance that was wildly imaginative, contagious and delightfully refreshing. Plus, you really can't top his rendition of Genie's "Never Had a Friend Like Me."

#2 โMrs. Doubtfireโ (1993)
A favorite family movie for generations to come, โMrs. Doubtfireโ tells the story of a father determined to do whatever it takes to spend time with his children while fighting to gain custody โ including dressing up as a female housekeeper. Williamsโ acting genius was on full display as he tackled his dual roles as father Daniel Hillard and housekeeper Mrs. Doubtfire with both dramatic gravitas and complete hilarity.

#1 โGood Will Huntingโ (1997)
"Good Will Hunting," the movie that earned Williams an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, follows the story of M.I.T. janitor Will (played by Matt Damon), whoโs brilliant at math but clueless about life. When psychologist Sean Maguire (played by Williams) steps in, Will is finally able to get the direction he needs. Williamsโ performance was sensitive and impeccably heartfelt in this film.
