Police Try To Coax Man Out Of Closet In Hollywood

A man holed himself inside a closet at a home in Hollywood Thursday night while police worked to coax him out.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police were trying Thursday evening to coax a possibly mentally ill man to leave a Hollywood residence where he had locked himself in a closet.

The situation was not being described as a barricade as the man is not armed and had not threatened anyone, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Division.

Still, there was a large police presence outside of the residence in the 6000 block of La Mirada Avenue, near Gower Street, where police were called to about 8:30 p.m. by a former girlfriend of the man.
