Tragic Details Emerge About Former Child Actress's Death

LOS ANGELES — New details are emerging about the death of former child actress Sophie Nyweide earlier this month, according to reports.
The 24-year-old was pregnant, according to TMZ, which cited her death certificate.
Police in Bennington, Vermont, where her body was discovered, told USA Today that the death was being investigated as “a possible unintentional overdose.”

Nyweide’s obituary said that she “self-medicated” to cope with trauma and shame she had experienced “and it resulted in her death.”
Authorities responded to a wooded area on the bank of the Roaring Branch River after a person reported that a woman was unresponsive and officials pronounced Nyweide dead around 5 a.m. April 14, according to USA Today.

Nyweide’s first major job was the title role in the 2006 film “Bella,” according to the Internet Movie Database. She went on to appear in a 2007 episode of “Law & Order,” as well as in the 2009 film “Mammoth,” with Gael García Bernal and Michelle Williams, and the 2014 movie “Noah,” which starred Jennifer Connelly, Russell Crowe and Emma Watson. Her last appearance was in a 2015 episode of “What Would You Do?”
Her obituary described her as “a kind and trusting girl” who “wrote and drew voraciously.” In addition to acting, she competed in snowboarding as a child.
The obituary requested that in place of gifts or flowers, donations be made in Nyweide's name to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
