West Hollywood Ranked Fourth Most Dangerous City In California
The report looked at violent and property crime, among other indicators, across the state to determine the safest places to live.
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A new report lists West Hollywood as the fourth most dangerous city in California. Safewise, a home security company, released their seventh annual Safest Cities report, ranking 229 cities from top to bottom.
Danville, a town near Oakland in Contra Costa County with a population of about 44,605, came in as the safest city in the state. In Southern California, Rancho Santa Margarita, Moorpark, Rancho Palos Verdes and Aliso Viejo rounded out the top 5.
West Hollywood, however, placed at 226 out of 229 cities, with only San Bernardino, Stockton and Oakland ranking lower. Among other indicators, the survey cited violent crimes and property crimes as a measuring tool, with West Hollywood reporting 7.9 violent crimes and 51.1 property crimes per 1000 people.

The report also surveyed the types of crimes that concern most California residents, with fears of gun violence topping the list. 12% of survey responders reported experiencing violent crime in the past 12 months, while 16% said they experienced property crime. Meanwhile, 54% of Californians said their personal safety had been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
"From those we surveyed, 56% of Californians feel a high daily level of concern for their safety," Safewise said. "Californians were second in the nation for highest concern over COVID-19, third in the nation for concern over gun violence and police violence, and fifth for concern over violent crime. But, for all this worry, 40% say they feel safe in California."
