'Wonder Woman' Review: Gadot Has All The Gusto Today's Superhero Needs

Wondering about "Wonder Woman"? Expect explosive action scenes with engaging bursts of comedy along the way.

Fans of Diana Prince, rejoice! Gal Gadot’s solo outing as Wonder Woman zings with excitement, humor and grandeur — simply the best movie in DC Comics’ cinematic universe.

“Wonder Woman” explores a deeper side of the famed Amazon princess and explains her presence in the modern world. A period piece set during World War I, the film follows the story of Diana, an Amazon warrior princess living on Themyscira. When American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash-lands on this all-female island, she decides to leave with him to help end the war, a conflict she thinks Ares, the God of War, started.

Gadot is simply mesmerizing as Diana. She plays a multi-dimensional superhero who’s both confused and disillusioned about the “real world.” Just wait until you see her first taste of ice cream — it’s definitely honest and sincere.

The chemistry between Gadot and Pine? Enchanting. He has the gravitas to pull off amazement at Diana’s unconventional, innocent ways. Fans will also be pleased to see Diana’s bullet-repelling bracelets, golden lasso and tiara take center stage.

The film's only downfall? A climactic battle in the third act plagued with excessive visual effects. It definitely slows down the story's momentum, but overall, “Wonder Woman” is oh-so-genuine. Gadot offers an inspirational and thrilling superhero for this generation.
