Young Man Killed By Security Guard At Hollywood Walgreens ID'd

Authorities identified a 21-year-old man who was killed by a security guard during a confrontation at Walgreens on Sunset Boulevard.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Authorities Thursday identified a suspected shoplifter who was shot to death by a security guard at a Walgreens store in the heart of Hollywood.

The shooting was reported about 8:10 p.m. Sunday at the Walgreens at Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street.

Jonathan Hart, 21, believed to have been a transient, died at a hospital, the coroner's office reported.

Hart was believed to have been shoplifting when he became involved in a fight with the security guard, who shot him in the upper body, police told reporters at the scene.

An unidentified man told CBS2 that Hart had carried an item close to the door to use the ATM. The man said he also was at the store and knew Hart, who he said suffered from mental illness.

As of Thursday afternoon, the security guard, whose name was not released, had not been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to the LAPD.
