  1. Would you like to buy a car and get a $4,000 rebate? “Southern California Edison income-qualified customers may qualify for a $4,000 rebate for purchasing or leasing a used electric vehicle,” we learned Thursday. The quadrupling of the standard $1,000 is for residents living “in a state-designated, income-qualified household.” (Patch)
  2. The Huntington Beach International Surf Museum has installed a new exhibit! Located at 411 Olive Avenue, it is titled “Finding California Surf.” It “highlights how early surfers discovered the state’s surf-rich coastline, detailing how many sites have been found and have only grown in popularity to be wiped out from existence where developments have changed the ocean.” Be at the unveiling on Tuesday at 5 PM “during the museum’s reopening ceremony.” (Artiistics)
  3. The South Coast Air Quality Management District doesn’t want you to roast chestnuts on an open fire, or have any wood fire for that matter. On Saturday, a no-burn order went into effect, which “prohibits indoor and outdoor wood burning due to a forecast of high pollution in the area.” This includes manufactured logs, sorry. Since this is the eighth extension of the order, it is bound to continue into next week. (Patch)
  4. Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley told residents Friday that reports of the Omicron variant shouldn’t result in panic. “The good news is we have more than 2 million people vaccinated, and we have tools to be able to prevent the spread,” she said. However, you should continue with the basics such as “masks, outdoor, small gatherings, physical distancing and vaccinations to prevent spread.” (ABC)
  5. The number of residents getting their COVID-19 booster shots is rising. As of Wednesday, “513,825 Orange County residents have received their COVID-19 booster vaccine.” This is a 35% increase from the prior week. Positive cases declined 71% from a high three weeks ago. Deputy County Health Officer Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong warns that “90% of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 are unvaccinated.” (OC Business Journal)
