- On Tuesday morning, the Homeless Task Force joined forces with Public Works to clean up Bartlett Park. You will remember that it had a significant amount of trash left behind from an encampment. “Our HTF staff often works with other City Departments to address cleanups and other items impacting safety and quality of life here in HB.” (@HBPoliceDept)
- There’s a ground beef recall that hit the news Tuesday. If you buy your ground beef patties at club stores and anywhere else restaurants buy their foods, this recall is for you! The Shamrock Food Company, which packages its products at Gold Canyon Meat Company, has learned that some of its recent 6,876-pound batch had “chunks of hard white plastic lodged within them.” The production date was October 21, and the lot code is 29421. - The City announced Tuesday that construction of the Central Park playground is on schedule to be complete by the end of this month. Public Works has been hard at work installing the play equipment and handling the landscaping. Considering that Southern Cal has sunny weather year-round, kids will be able to play there this winter. (City of HB)
- With the oil spill in the rearview mirror and cleanup procedures almost done, the official probe has begun. State lawmakers started hearings on Monday to learn about “communication delays and regulatory gaps.” Notably absent from the hearing was Amplify Energy, which owns the pipeline that leaked. The company previously declined to attend a hearing in Sacramento. Officials suggest “A, you don’t care. B, you have something to hide.” Amplify Energy sent a letter Friday, which said that “Given the various ongoing investigations into this incident, we are not in a position to responsibly answer your questions at this time.” (Voice of OC)
- Sunset Beach artist and author Bill Anderson will be at a book signing at Timeless Treasures on Thursday. He will also talk about his watercolors. And yes, he is the owner and operator of the Anderson Art Gallery in Sunset Beach. (HB News)
