  1. On Monday, the City started the Bluff Top Improvement Project. It’s anticipated to be ongoing until February. Then, you will see a replaced metal railing that will have made way to wooden lodge poles. There will be a railing at the stairway. Insiders note that it takes 8,000 linear feet of railing to frame the park in its entirety. However, residents are concerned that termites and the proximity of the ocean will cause the wood to rot sooner rather than later. (CityofHB)
  2. Shoutout to Jack Borenstein! As of Wednesday, he is one of more than 660 students who were named Baldwin Wallace University scholars. Borenstein received the coveted Boynton D. Murch Scholarship. Congratulations! (HB News)
  3. Gypsum Canyon is going to be a veterans’ cemetery site. OC veterans have battled for years to get a cemetery within the county’s borders. On Wednesday, they declared victory. After threats of lawsuits and ballot referendums, the vets left Irvine behind in favor of the property in Anaheim. An estimated price tag for the project is $100 million, which the City of Anaheim is not willing to cover. (Voice of OC)
  4. The Associated Press revealed Thursday that the pipeline involved in the HB oil spilldid not have a fully functioning leak detection system at the time.” The AP cites a report filed by Beta Offshore, which is a subsidiary of Amplify Energy, with federal regulators. Missing from the report is any indication of why the detection system did not work. Experts suggest that a working leak detection system could have alerted technicians before the oil sheen was spotted on the water. (AP/ABC)
  5. Chik-fil-A is once again looking out for its workers. Rather than raking in the cash and staying open December 25, which is a Saturday, the restaurant chain opted to be closed on that Saturday as well as the next day, which is the company’s rule. Restaurants reopen on Dec. 27. (Patch)
