  1. Did you know that HB is one of 121 CA cities to be governed by a charter rather than the state’s general law? This charter is due for review, and each city council member appointed a resident to the review committee. The first meeting of the committee was Thursday. Minutes of the meeting are not yet available. (Surf City Break)
  2. Did you see them? The King Tides peaked Saturday around the mid to late morning. They occur when “a new moon or full moon are closest to Earth and Earth is closest to the sun.” If you took some photos while out at the beach, please share them with the CA King Tide Project. While providing this information, the report’s authors also went on record stating that “up to $10 billion worth of existing property in California is likely to be underwater by 2050.” (NPR)
  3. On Saturday, the HBPD will partner with USMC to hold its Toys for Tots campaign. Come to the HB Sports Complex at 18100 Golden West Street, between 10 AM and 2 PM to drop off a “new & unwrapped toy.” While you’re there, you can say hi to the officers and check out exhibits. The HB K9 will be “on-site accepting donations!” (@HBPoliceDept)
  4. The Orange County Historical Society invites you to come to its annual Show & Tell holiday gathering. Happening on Thursday at 7:30 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2400 North Canal Street in Orange, everyone’s welcome. “Bring a choice artifact, photo, or a bit of memorabilia that connects to an interesting story about Orange County’s past.” (OC Breeze)
  5. The Fourth of July Executive Board met last month and selected “Hometown Tradition” as the theme for the 118th HB 4th of July Parade. Rejected themes included, “We the People,” “Proud to be an American,” and “Main Street Americana.” (Legistar)
