- We learned Tuesday that HB has selected Eric Parra to be the new police chief. The candidate currently works as police chief in Alhambra, which is a position he held since March. He left the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department in 2019, after becoming division chief. The City Council made the selection official Wednesday when it extended the offer to the 33-year law enforcement veteran. Parra’s starting date is December 20. (Daily Pilot/paywall)
- In 2019, a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run at PCH and 10th Avenue. On Tuesday, a Monrovia resident “was found guilty of a hit-and-run felony” and sentenced to two years in prison. (CA News Times)
- The City of HB is looking for a resident to create the “new logo for the 2022 edition of the annual 4th of July celebration.” This logo will become the official symbol of the 4th of July Executive Board. The theme, which was revealed Tuesday, is “Hometown Tradition.” (HB 4th of July)
- Huntington Beach Fire alerted the public on Wednesday that there was a kitchen fire at an assisted living facility on November 24. But this story has a happy ending. All residents and workers were evacuated. Moreover, “the fire stopped at the kitchen appliance that was on fire,” which the Department connects directly to its “fire prevention bureau inspection program and California Fire Code.” The facility had a “UL300 kitchen suppression system put out the fire and the interconnected fire alarm system notified the occupants to exit the building.” (Huntington Beach Fire)
- Would you like to be part of the volunteer effort to lure more monarch butterflies back to the OC? You have an opportunity to do so this Saturday! Be at the Monarch Nature Trail at 9 a.m. “The Trail is the old Navy railroad right-of-way in North Huntington Beach. Enter at the Rancho Rd. entrance (near Spa Drive, where you can park).” This is an all-ages event that includes “watering, weeding and planting.” (HB News)
