Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Huntington Beach Daily.

The Dwyer Middle School's music department won a grant. Also, leave out your bins; trash is being picked up again. Finally, the mask mandate will continue until January 15.

  1. Dwyer Middle School's music department received a National Federation of State High School Associations grant. We learned last Friday that this money covers the department’s activation for the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Neil Reyes is the Dwyer Director of Bands and Choir. (HBCSD)
  2. Trash collection resumed Friday. Republic Services and the union representing its employees reached an agreement. To catch up on the number of missed collections, the company will have more staff on the road and even collect trash over the weekend. Next week, trash collection should be back to normal. Residents and businesses should place and keep their bins out until the trash is picked up. (Surf City Break)
  3. The mask mandate for indoor public spaces is back. All HB residents – vaccinated or not – had to start wearing masks on Wednesday. This mandate will continue until January 15. (Patch)
  4. OC reporter Michele Gile posted Thursday that officials are “examining a pin hole leak in an offshore oil pipeline operated by an unknown company.” This may be connected to the oil sheens we discussed yesterday. So far, berms and booms are keeping any oil off the beach. (@michelegiletv)
  5. City Attorney Michael Gates released an open letter on Thursday to the mayor, mayor pro tem, and council member Dan Kalmick. The issue was the “proposed violation of law as reflected in your ‘H item’ initiative” that is part of Tuesday’s city council meeting. Gates alleges the recipients are attempting to circumvent the City’s charter. He points out that the voters choose the legal counsel, not the City Council. Moreover, he warns that their “attempt to retain outside counsel to report directly to you is illegal.” (FB)
