Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:
- The HB Resolution Run hosted by Edison HS is coming up! Scheduled for December 5 at Magnolia and PCH, proceeds “help fund programs to make sure that our school and community programs will be better supported.” One of the funds’ recipients is the McKenna Claire Foundation. (Run Signup)
- The CA hospital rankings for the fall of 2021 are out, and Huntington Beach Hospital at 17772 Beach Boulevard scored a “C.” Contributing to this mediocre grade were reports of C. diff infection, some surgical wounds that split open, and falls causing broken hips. On the positive side, there were specially trained doctors that care for ICU patients, a sufficient number of qualified nurses, and effective leadership to prevent errors. (Hospital Safety Grade)
- The HBPD was involved in taking down drug supply distribution from a “drug trafficking organization based out of Mexico” on Tuesday. Two arrests took place in Bell, where officers seized $1 million (wholesale value) in drugs. This translates to “317 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 17 kilos of suspected cocaine and fentanyl and 2 handguns.” (KTLA)
- Remember J. Goodgame, who exposed himself on January 5 in downtown HB? He avoided “felony counts of kidnapping to commit a sex crime, attempted forcible rape, and sexual battery” by pleading guilty on Thursday to a felony count of assault with the intent to commit a sex offense, two counts of indecent exposure, a count of failing to register as a sex offender upon release from jail and a count of touching an intimate part of another person, all misdemeanors.” Sentencing will take place on January 27. (KFI)
- Update on the 2017 New Year's Eve Murder: We recently talked about HB man C. Ireland, who is accused of killing two women and setting the home on fire to cover it up. He admitted Wednesday that he used “a meat cleaver during the fatal confrontations with both women, though he contended that each attacked him first.” Closing arguments might take place on Tuesday. Ireland faces life in prison. (The OCR)
