Here are the top stories today in Huntington Beach:

  1. The Orbis flying eye hospital plane will participate in the Huntington Beach Pacific Airshow. Orbis is a non-profit that serves patients across the global. Its focus is on “treating blindness across the world.” The airshow participation is “to thank the community who helped get their plane off the ground.” (ABC 7)
  2. Watch the HB Fire Department OES 416 at work. The group is fighting the Windy Fire in northern California. (Yes, that’s a propane tank you see in the clip.) (@CityofHBPIO)
  3. The surfing, skateboarding, and BMX events of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will come to Huntington Beach. The City Council passed a resolution to make the city the host. In prior council meetings, members discussed spending $750,000 of the funds received from the American Rescue Plan toward the project. It could fund construction of the World Skatepark. (Inside the Games)
  4. It’s been 22 years in the making. It cost $1.4 billion. Recently, the Regional Water Quality Control Board issued a permit to Poseidon Water for its hotly-debated desalination plant. Now, two environmental groups are suing the Board over its “environmental review of the project.” (Water Education)
  5. The Surf City Surf Dog event has made the German news. Across the pond, news writers see it as America being known “for its crazy competitions.” The pooches didn’t disappoint – locally and internationally. (DW)
