- College View Elementary School at 6582 Lennox Drive adds bike riding to its kindergarten PE class. Professional BMX bike rider Mike Clark is connected to All Kids Bike. The organization donated 24 new Strider balance bicycles to College View’s kindergarteners on Thursday. There were big smiles all around. (Daily Pilot)
- Two HBPD officers were exposed to fentanyl during a Friday traffic stop. Hazmat went to the Beach Boulevard location and confirmed the presence of the drug. The officers are unharmed. The same goes for three other people who were exposed. (CBS)
- Edison Park is in the news. Back in October, the City Council gave the green light to build homes on the 14 acres on Strathmoor Lane that was once home to Brethren Christian School. Because this meant losing two lit soccer fields, the developer promised to find alternatives. Now, the proposal involves “three 50-yard by 70-yard youth-sized soccer fields” under the power lines along Hamilton Avenue. However, these developments come at the price of felling established trees, which caused somewhat of a community uproar. Council member Mike Posey explained on Tuesday that the city is “planning for future generations.” (OC Register/Pay Wall)
- On Wednesday, the Orange County Board of Supervisors eliminated fines for late library books. They reasoned that these fees represent “economic barriers” to some “would-be borrowers.” Late fees will officially end on Tuesday. In addition, “all existing fees will be forgiven.” However, you’re still on the hook for fines associated with lost and damaged items. (Spectrum News 1)
- The county was on the receiving end of a lawsuit Thursday “alleging racial and sexual harassment, and retaliation by the District Attorney’s Office.” The person at the center of the suit is a retired Orange County senior prosecutor. According to the suit, the senior prosecutor once “boasted that he was a `walking HR violation’ who was `not going to change.”’ (My News LA)
