- Taking your car to the gas station is getting more expensive. Costs in the OC are “$1.233 greater than one year ago.” It makes gas prices the highest since October 23, 2012. Right now, you can find the cheapest gas “on Beach Boulevard at $3.95 per gallon.” (Patch)
- Officials are investigating if a ship under the German flag, the Rotterdam Express, could have been anchored near the oil pipeline when it sustained damage. A 1,000-foot-long vessel, it seems to have had some “unusual movements.” Hapag-Lloyd, the ship’s operators, “denied any role in the spill.” Moreover, it says the “transponder data displayed by MarineTraffic is erroneous.” (ABC 7)
- SeaWorld’s rescue team is on standby to assist care for oiled wildlife from the HB oil spill. Although there have been no requests made for help, the facility it is readying its Oiled Wildlife Care Center to open at a moment’s notice. It’s important to note that cleaning the oil is only one aspect of wildlife care. They also need treatment because the oil burns their skin, eyes, burns their mucus membranes, burns their airways. - Oil cleanup at the Talbert Marsh is ongoing. The area measures 25 acres and provides habitats to 90 bird species. Booms are set up to keep more oil out. Aerators are attempting to maintain oxygen balance in the water to make up for the “lack of water flow from the ocean.” (Spectrum News 1)
- The Huntington Beach Public Library will host an inaugural Hispanic Heritage Fiesta! Scheduled for October 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be “crafts, games, music, food, Zumba” and more. Head to the Central Library on that day for this FREE event. (@hblibrary)
