  1. Green Vehicles Update: The City Council voted to develop a plan that will turn HB’s 900-vehicle fleet from gas-guzzlers to alternative fuel sippers. Council member Erik Peterson opposed the plan “due to economic concerns.” In contrast, Council member Dan Kalmick, who is in favor of the transition, considers it “something that we’ve been needing to do for a long time.” (New University)
  2. The HBPD partnered with SWAT to serve a warrant. Several arrests were made. Also, officers seized “multiple handguns, assault rifles & 3 lbs of methamphetamine.” (@HBPoliceDept)
  3. Did you see the protesters at the HB Pier? The issue was the student vaccination mandate. Reasoning that absent children translate to a hit against school funding, many kept children out of school, too. “We want them to know that we're serious about not being forced to vaccinate our children,” one protester noted. (ABC)
  4. Cal Poly Pomona’s biological science community is not as optimistic as some are about HB having averted an ecological disaster. Pointing to the natural reefs and Talbert Marshes, it considers the far-reaching consequence of the oil spill. The experts suggest that while the immediate effect is “killing fish and about 3,400 birds,” the “long-term effects of the oil spill are still unknown.” (The Poly Post)
  5. COVID-19 figures are looking better in the OC. There are currently 175 hospitalizations, with 34 patients being in the ICU. Officials are hopeful that “things are moving in the right direction in terms of everything” with hospitalizations falling below 200. However, they do point out that last year things got bad after Halloween. (My News LA)
