  1. The Hauntington Beach Manor is coming back to the Westminster Mall! Head to the lower level of the mall, right next to Macy’s. The theme is “Sanitarium.” (KTLA)
  2. Did a dolphin die as a result of the oil spill? The Pacific Marine Mammal Center was called to Cabrillo Beach, where it found a stranded juvenile dolphin. The animal had to be euthanized. Even though a necropsy didn’t find oil, there’s a chance the spill contributed to the animal’s death. (CBS)
  3. The HBPD is putting you on notice. There will be a DUI checkpoint on Friday, 10-22. Yes, it wants you to know about it ahead of time. No, the police are not telling you where in HB the checkpoint will be. (@HBPoliceDept)
  4. The long-term outlook for the beaches isn’t rosy. While short-term cleanup seems to be moving at a rapid pace, there’s a question about what’s happening to the flora and fauna that cannot move away, such as abalone. “You will have to go through a number of rounds of beach cleanup and every time you have a storm you are going to see those tar balls back up on the beach,” specialists warn. (The Guardian)
  5. The next HB Listens event will be on October 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The focus will be “community wellness.” The City’s Human Relations Task Force will conduct the meeting at 7111 Talbert Avenue. (HR Task Force)
