- We’re getting an ice rink at the HB Pier! It’ll measure 4,100 square feet and be shaped in a rectangle measuring 82 feet by 50 feet. Up to 162 skaters can be on the ice at the same time. Skaters pay $12 for unlimited time and $5 for skate rentals. The rink will be opened by November 26 and stick around until January 2. (OC Register)
- Rocky McKinnon introduced a chair board surfboard with a demonstration. With the patent pending, this 15-foot board will be used with HB’s adaptive surfing program. By manipulating the center of gravity, the surfer made it possible for those who have been kept from the sport due to mobility issues to participate with others. The Kiwanis Club of HB assisted with funding. (Daily Pilot)
- The 18-unit town home project on the “east side of Cameron Lane and south of Slater Avenue” is a go. At this time, there is only a vacant lot at the site. These town homes are supposed to be “affordable for moderate income families.” However, the City Council needs to consider what to do about missing sidewalks outside this development. (OC Tribune)
- Alec Baldwin is coming under fire for a 2017 Tweet involving an HB police shooting. Commenting on an article about the shooting, the actor opined, “I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone...” Moreover, a 2015 Tweet finds Baldwin making fun of Dick Cheney’s hunting accident.
