- Laser Pointer Update: Remember the Santa Ana man who has been convicted in the past of aiming a laser at helicopters in the air? A Monday report noted that the 47-year-old man will “plead guilty to another incident.” The second incident took place in April 2020 and involved a Sheriff’s Department helicopter. (Patch)
- Oil Spill Update: As of Monday, Amplify, the Texas-based company that is responsible for the ruptured pipeline leading to the HB oil spill and recent sheen on the water, is facing 14 lawsuits. Plaintiffs consist of residents, businesses, and property owners. There are 22 law firms involved, some of which want the presiding judge to consolidate the suits into a class-action case. The next time the case is in court is the middle of December in the Santa Ana federal courthouse. According to Amplify’s filing, it “paid approximately $17.3 million in costs related to remediation efforts.” (Phys Org)
- A shoutout to HB resident Jack Rico! This 15-year-old will graduate December 14 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. Did we mention he’s graduating with honors? (HB News)
- Even though the Omicron variant is now dominating the news, local school boards are “pushing back against an expected vaccine mandate for students.” A Monday report noted that the Ocean View School District Board of Trustees presented a resolution “for the state to reconsider requiring students to be vaccinated to go to classrooms.” Parents have protested the mandate, citing concerns about Myocarditis. Experts counter that “we have lost 38 young lives since the start of the pandemic.” (Voice of OC)
- Did you see the “Helpful Honda Guys in Blue” on Friday? They were at 5-Points Plaza handing out cookies and chips from their treat wagon. While you never know where they will show up next, they’re always a welcome sight! (HB News)
