- HB officials are on alert after a “light sheen,” possibly meaning oil, was reported near the coast Saturday. The U.S. Coast Guard received the information about an impact area of 30-by-70 feet around 12:15 p.m. The bad news is that it’s exactly where the oil spill on October 2 took place. Some speculate that this may be a diesel spill because of the light color. (LB Post)
- Don’t plan on parking in the lot at McCallen Park or the nearby Boys & Girls Club. The City plans on heading to 2309 Delaware Street early in the morning to pave the space. Work will begin Tuesday at 7 a.m. and continue until November 30. (@CityofHBPIO)
- The Kazuo Masuda Middle School in Fountain Valley honored WWII Distinguished Service Cross recipient Sgt. Kazuo Masuda. Although he lost his life in 1944 while serving this country, the students and faculty designated November 9 to remember the man the school was named after. There were speeches, presentations, and patriotic music. (L.A. Japanese Daily News)
- The National Scholastic Surfing Association National Championships were happening on Friday. This particular competition is geared toward younger athletes. Levi Young of Haiku won the Explorer Juniors (17 and under) division. Kaden Awad of Paia came home with the Explorer Menehune (12 and under) title. (The Maui News)
- Representative Michelle Steel of the 48th District voted against the $1.75 trillion social spending bill. In a statement released to constituents on Friday, she explains that she was not on board with “the biggest expansion of our government in more than 80 years.” She also noted that “inflation just hit a 30-year high” and that the “bill raises taxes on middle-class families, funds IRS surveillance on Americans’ bank accounts, provides billions in a slush fund for Green New Deal programs, and would add $367 billion to the deficit.” (OC Breeze)
