  1. Christopher Ken Ireland Update: On Wednesday, the 42-year-old man was convicted of the 2017 murder he committed in Westminster. At that time, he killed two women and set a fire to hide the murders. He faces life in prison without parole. (OC Tribune)
  2. Oil Spill Update: On Friday, the Feds alleged that the cargo ship “Beijing” did the anchor dragging that could have contributed to the leak that would then become the HB oil spill. The Beijing was anchored at the LB Port. The ship’s owner Capetanissa Maritime Corp. of Liberia, along with its operator, V. Ships Greece Ltd., are named in the investigation as parties “in interest.” (CBS)
  3. Organizers announced Tuesday that the Kneeboard Festival is coming back to HB. During the 2022 event, winning participants will receive the Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles -- an honor that was last bestowed in 2019. “In addition to the Open division, the 2022 event will feature Women's, Junior's, and Pro Junior's divisions.” (Patch)
  4. Blue bioluminescence is nature’s latest spectacle. Right now, Newport Beach ocean waves are the places to see the stunning display. It is caused by an algae bloom made up of microorganisms that use bioluminescence for predator avoidance. The movement of the waves splashing on the beach agitates the algae enough to respond in this way. Experts noted Friday that the phenomenon is moving north. (Patch)
  5. Have you fallen victim to a sleight-of-hand jewelry theft? Authorities in Westminster announced Thursday that they arrested an Anaheim couple running this scam. The alleged jewelry thief placed a costume jewelry necklace over a mark’s head while removing a necklace the mark was wearing. Detectives found a lot of “pieces of jewelry in the suspects’ vehicle.” If you think you may have been a victim, contact Westminster Police Department Detective Marcela Lopez at 714-548-3773.
