- Who will be the new mayor of HB? Kim Carr is ready to hand over the baton. Mayor pro tem, Barbara Delgleize, is a likely option. She was mayor in 2016. This means that Mike Posey may move to the position of mayor pro tem. Of course, there’s always a chance that the City Council members may decide to go in a totally different direction today. (OC Tribune)
- What’s going on with the Orange County Power Authority? A Monday report notes that the green energy agency’s chief operating officer suddenly resigned. Critics suggest that this is just the latest in a series of problems that call into question the agency’s “lack of transparency, cost-effectiveness, and expertise.” The COO had previously expressed concerns about the CEO’s behavior. Right now, everyone’s circling the wagons at the agency. (Voice of OC)
- If you’re looking for a job, show up at Oakmont, 18922 Delaware Street, for a job fair. The assisted living facility is hiring cooks, dishwashers, and servers. Benefits include insurance, retirement savings, student loan refinancing, and scholarship programs. The job fair is on Wednesday from 10 AM to 4 PM. (@AWConnection)
- HB is going to become a more bike-friendly city. As noted on November 29, plans for 2022 include “a bicycle connection on Utica Avenue from Beach Boulevard to Main Street.” Buffered bike lanes will go on Delaware Street. Goldenwest Street will see a re-striping of the bike lanes. (Surf City Break)
- Inflation is a big deal. A Sunday report highlighted that it increases wholesale costs of products, which affects small business owners. Another squeeze comes in the form of having to pay higher wages. The local electric bike dealership found that it “had to pay workers 25% more, on top of a boost in commissions.” These problems create the perfect storm of which large companies can now take advantage.
