- The state is weighing in. Officials "announced a ban on fishing or collecting shellfish from Huntington Beach to Dana Point." It is unclear yet how long this ban will remain in effect. Besides that, there is no telling which other beach fronts may become affected. (@LAtimes)
- The blame game’s begun. While rescuers are frantically seeking oiled wildlife and conservation specialists attempt to limit the oil’s access to wetlands, there are calls for finding those responsible for the oil spill. Some are wondering if “a ship’s anchor could have caused the devastating oil spill.” Others are casting an eye at Amplify Energy, which is the pipeline company that has insurance. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer is on record stating that “somebody is going to pay for that.” (CNN)
- The shoreline closure “in Huntington Beach between the Santa Ana River Jetty and Seapoint Street” is ongoing, and there is no end date. Also, officials installed 2,050 feet of protective booms at seven key locations. For residents with health-related questions, please call the Orange County Health Care Agency at (714) 834-2000. (City of HB)
- Will HB get more affordable housing? Mayor Kim Carr acknowledges that there are “numerous obstacles when building homes in coastal cities.” Critics suggest that there is an “overproduction of expensive housing.” So, the City Council amended its housing ordinance to “create more housing options at different affordability levels.” However, there is the question if anything short of a mandate will lead to the construction of affordable housing. (Voice of OC)
- Rescuers have located four oiled birds so far. One had injuries too extensive to treat and was euthanized. There’s no accounting for the quantities of fish that have died as a result of the oil spill. Or of the plants that are also affected. (CBS)
