  1. Authorities have moved to the cleanup phase of the oil spill near Bolsa Chica, we learned Friday. Although officials believe that a pinhole-sized leak was the likely source, its location has not been found. According to the HBPD, they “have not identified any additional oil in the area.” As of Saturday, the Department of Fish and Wildlife “observed no recoverable oil/sheen or evidence of oiling on beaches.” (Patch, @CalSpillWatch)
  2. The Slapfish at 19696 Beach Boulevard doesn’t want you to go hungry, we heard Friday. If you can’t afford food, connect with Andrew Gruel online to “request a meal.” You can also call the restaurant directly and explain your situation “to receive a meal.” (Voice of OC)
  3. The HB Central Library announced its next FREE citizenship class on Friday. They will host it January 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The session will continue until March 16. In the process, you learn about the exam, American history, and anything else you might need to know. (HB Public Library)
  4. The HBPD announces a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint! Posting the announcement on Friday, the PD wants you to be on your best behavior on Wednesday evening between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. No, the officers didn’t disclose the location. (@HBPoliceDept)
  5. The Youth Volleyball League ended its season. First-ranked Spikers took on third-ranked Volleyballers. The Spikers took the win! If you have youngsters who want to play sports, your next opportunity will be the Coed Youth Basketball League. Registration starts January 8. (City Manager)
