  1. Did you feel it? On Monday, there were reports of two jolts right around 8:15 a.m. However, Cal Tech noted that their “seismograms show no earthquake in Orange County this morning.” Dr. Lucy Jones, California’s go-to authority for all things shaking, concurred. Camp Pendleton revealed that it’s firing "high explosive ammunitions," which could account for the rattling and shaking. (Patch)
  2. On Saturday, the Westminster PD received a call about an unconscious person in a restroom at Sigler Park. When officers arrived, they found five unresponsive people. Suspecting an opioid overdose, officers administered Narcan. OCFA Hazmat evacuated the park searching for drug residue. (News Santa Ana)
  3. We’re number one — sort of. On Friday, the National Weather Service reported that John Wayne Airport was the hottest place in the U.S. The peak Friday temperature was 98 degrees Fahrenheit. In comparison, the temperature at Furnace Creek in Death Valley was only 91 degrees. (Patch, Time and Date)
  4. OC residents like outdoor dining and local restaurants want to accommodate them. “Last year, cities across Orange County approved outdoor dining ordinances allowing restaurants and retailers to take their business out to parking lots and sidewalks in an effort to help them survive the economic devastation of the pandemic.” Now, there’s a move to make these ordinances permanent. The HB City Council already voted “in September to extend the temporary closure of the second block of Main Street to vehicular traffic through the end of the year.” However, extending this accommodation further might face opposition from residents who fear parking problems. (Voice of OC)
  5. The Orange County Board of Education has a vacancy left by Tim Shaw to fill. The replacement will only stay in place until June, when Shaw’s term is officially over. You now have the opportunity to apply by November 30. The goal of this move is to prevent a special election. (OCDE)
