  1. Oil spill update: There’s no fishing between Sunset Beach and Dana Beach from the shoreline to six miles out. The Santa Ana River Jetty and Seapoint Street are closed indefinitely. The actual gallon count of spilled oil went up to 144,000. Fourteen boats and 320 people are doing the cleanup. There’s no need for hands-on volunteers, but the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center need donations. Talbert Marsh is protected by booms right now. (@CityofHBPIO)

Governor Gavin Newsomproclaimed a state of emergency.” He has sent members of the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response as well as of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. He has also mobilized staff members from the “California State Parks, California Volunteers, California State Lands Commission, CAL FIRE and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.” (Office of the Governor)
  3. Don’t eat the fish! If your fish or shellfish was caught between Huntington Beach and Dana Point, you should not eat it. The warning went out even as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has banned fishing in the area. (CBS)
  4. The first federal lawsuit in the oil spill’s aftermath has hit the courts. Being on the ground floor of the "proposed class-action lawsuit" is the owner of a DJ company. There are “claims for monetary damages, injunctive relief, response costs, and medical monitoring.” (CBS)
  5. The Coast Report is urging residents to support coffee shops that are “women, minority-owned.” Citing statistics that the “Black ownership dropped 41% at the start of the pandemic,” there’s also information that Asian-owned businesses were adversely affected. If you’re in HB, this could mean checking out Aosa Coffee. (Coast Report)
