- Officials announced Friday that the oil sheen spotted off the HB coast does not seem to be a pipeline leak. Samples collected did not match the oil from the October 2 spill. While authorities are clear that “there is no indication of an unsecured discharge of oil,” there’s still no known cause for the sheen. According to Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley, there’s a pinhole leak in an unknown pipeline. (KFI)
- The HBPD wants to skate with you! Officers will be at the Pierre Plaza Winter Wonderland on Wednesday. Show up between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and get to know them! (Moon AI Lisa)
- The HBUHSD struggles to find substitute teachers. We learned last Friday that many subs filled vacancies created by retiring teachers. However, the school district has had an average of 80 teachers absent per week since September. In some schools, administrators had to step in and take over for missing teachers. As of the end of November, substitute teacher pay went up from a $132 flat rate to $180. (Baron News)
- When La Habra City Council Member Tim Shaw resigned from the OC Board of Education in November, he left a vacancy. The Board intends to fill it Tuesday with applications received on or before Friday. If the members can’t agree, they may have to hold a special election. They have until January 2 to fill the vacancy. (Voice of OC)
- The Ursid meteor shower is coming! Did you miss the Geminid meteor shower that produced between 50 and 100 sightings an hour? It ran from December 4 to Friday. Now, the Ursid meteor shower is active until Dec. 26 with a peak on Tuesday. On the downside, you only see five to ten meteors an hour. (Patch)
