  1. Did you know that Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr, City Council members Barbara Delgleize and Natalie Moser, and Assemblywoman Janet Nguyen all like to skate on ice? They tried out the Pier Plaza ice skating rink on Wednesday morning. The rink comes with a “half million dollar, three-year contract with Ice-America.” Follow in their skate lines by visiting the rink yourself “Monday thru Thursday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.” (HB News)
  2. The Marine Toys for Tots campaign has begun! Families in need and non-profits have until Wednesday to register. Residents are encouraged to participate in donating by December 16. Non-profits will receive donations December 18 to 20. Individual families will receive their toys December 21 to 23. (Toys for Tots)
  3. HB celebrates Hanukkah with a menorah lighting at Bella Terra, 7777 Edinger Avenue. The festivities take place on Monday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join the Chabad of South Huntington Beach “in the Pavilion Event Plaza, near the large fountain by Solita.” There will be “live music by OC Klezmers, doughnuts” and “a ventriloquist performance by Joe Gandelman.” (Voice of OC)
  4. Noonan’s Christmas Trees has opened its gates Monday. Visit 1370 Adams Avenue and take your pick of “all sizes of Nobles, Norman, Douglas, Grand, and Alpine trees!” They are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and offer local delivery on larger trees and their oversized wreaths. However, remember that quantities are limited this year, so you want to head there sooner rather than later. (FB)
  5. COVID-19 hospitalization numbers rose only slightly by Thursday. Cases increased from 179 to 188 and the number of intensive care patients increased by four. “The county has 24.4% of its ICU beds available and 68% of its ventilators.” Among unvaccinated residents, the case rate went from 16.3 to 13.9 per 100,000. For vaccinated residents, it went down from 3.2 to 2.6. (My News LA)
