  1. 'Tis the season for robberies. On Tuesday, authorities warned residents that robberies are now happening in parking lots. Another ruse used consists of “follow-home robberies where suspects ambush seniors as they enter their neighborhood.” The HBPD notes that the people will follow the targets “and make any attempt they can to speak to them, touch them, shake their hand, grab their arm.” Some seniors don’t realize they were robbed until much later. (CBS)
  2. HB might see a strike of sanitation workers employed by Republic Services. On Wednesday, members of Teamsters Local 396 voted to authorize a strike because “little progress has been made in addressing worker concerns, including excessive working hours and constant harassment on the job.” If both sides cannot agree on terms, there may be trash piling up over the holidays. (Random Lengths News)
  3. Last year, California Highway Patrol officers dealt with 33 traffic-related fatalities over Thanksgiving. This year, all available CHP officers will work a crackdown on impaired driving, we learned Wednesday. It started at 6 p.m. Wednesday and continues until 11:56 p.m. on Sunday. If you are “speeding, distracted or not wearing seat belts,” expect to be pulled over. On the other side of the coin, the CHP will keep eyes open for motorists stranded on the side of the road to see if they can help. (Patch)
  4. Rick M. from HB won $41,236.96 at the Pala Casino Spa & Resort on Tuesday. He invested $50 on a bet at the $10 Double Double Bonus Poker game. A Royal Flush later, Rick will be having a very happy Thanksgiving, indeed. (@PalaCasino)
  5. Orange County is in the midst of a red flag warning that began Wednesday morning. Do you know what this means? For starters, it means knowing how to get out of your neighborhood if a fire sparks. Secondly, move flammable objects away from your home’s exterior. Keep a portable radio ready, have your vehicle’s gas tank filled, and avoid doing anything that might cause a spark. (@NWSSanDiego)
