Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:

  1. Do you want to taste some veggies grown by the students at HB HS? They made it into Tuesday's shrimp and rice dish of Chef Andrew Gruel. Head to the Slapfish in the Newland Center to order yours! (@ChefGruel)
  2. On Sunday, the HBPD responded to a hit-and-run accident near PCH and 24th Street. A 66-year-old man was fatally struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee that just kept driving. A 39-year-old woman then approached investigators at the scene and confessed to being the driver. However, it turns out that her husband was the actual driver. The couple was taken into custody. “He was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, and his wife was suspected of acting as an accessory to a crime after the fact and making a false report of a crime.” (KTLA, HBN)
  3. The City Council’s Tuesday agenda included cannabis petitions and anticipated litigation. A hotly debated and highly controversial line item is the recommendation “that the City Council direct the City Manager to engage a process to facilitate the City Council’s selection of an outside legal firm that would directly report to and support the City Council.” Besides that, there were discussions about fees for the HB taxi program, paying $75,000 for a council policy analyst employee, and paying Green Giant Landscape, Inc. the amount of $1,864,013.45 for the Bluff Top Park Trail improvement project. (Legistar)
  4. Just in time for family Christmas get-togethers, the CDC warns that “breakthrough COVID-19 cases from the Omicron variant — infections among the vaccinated — are less common among people who have received their third vaccination shots.” Dr. Anthony Fauci explained on Friday that “the Pfizer and Moderna booster shots work well.” HB residents can make appointments at all the pharmacy chains to get their boosters before Friday or Saturday. Another option is to walk in at HB Urgent Care, 17822 Beach Boulevard. (Patch, Covid Testing HB)
  5. Did last year’s holiday parties at Airbnb properties annoy you and the neighbors? The company is trying to prevent it from happening this year. We learned on Monday that Airbnb restricts one-night, two-night, three-night, and last-minute reservations to guests with a history of positive reviews. “In 2020, Airbnb announced a global ban on parties and events with more than 16 people at Airbnb listings in an attempt to prevent nuisances that disturb surrounding neighborhoods.” (Patch)
