Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:
- Today, the Springdale Street Bridge will close “immediately north of Warner Avenue.” This closure will go on through December 10. Temporary detours for northbound traffic are Edwards Street and for southbound vehicles will be Bolsa Chica Street. (OC Public Works)
- Waymakers will host its Light a Light of Love event this coming Sunday. Taking place at Main Street, 5th Avenue and Pier Plaza, there will be crafts, a children’s holiday parade, photo opportunities with Santa Claus, and snowflake lighting. Proceeds benefit the organization that focuses on “redirecting youth offenders, helping sheltered children get back on track, unifying troubled families, resolving community conflicts or empowering victims of violence.” (@CityofHBPIO, Waymakers)
- On Saturday, ABC reported on the Freedom Committee of Orange County's Living History program. It benefited students at Early College High School, who got to hear from veterans. For many learners, veterans (right now) are great-grandparents. Having history come to life in this way is a great way to understand the military and “see firsthand experience of what someone” would have to do. (ABC)
- Giving Tuesday is tomorrow, and the Orange Coast College would like you to participate. “For every dollar donated to the school, 50 cents will be matched by an anonymous donor.” “If someone gives twenty-five dollars, they're turning it into $37.50,” said the executive director of the OCC Foundation. By the way, you can tell the OCC how you would like your donation allocated! (Coast Report Online)
- If you have a hankering for churros and gelato, there’s a gourmet spot just waiting to serve you. Opening on December 4, Churriño Gourmet Churros & Gelato is hosting its grand opening celebration at the South Coast Plaza. “The grand opening will feature DJ entertainment, special promotions and giveaways.” Right now, the only way to enjoy some Churriño is to drive to Long Beach’s 345 The Promenade North.
