Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Huntington Beach Daily.
Until the City Council figures out what to do about the trash that’s piling up, they have designed five drop-off locations. Also, the Circuit pilot program may come to an end. Finally, bacteria levels along the coast are high; stay out of the water!

- The sanitation worker strike is ongoing. As of Tuesday, residents are urged to keep putting out their trash cans and leaving them out. Although street-sweeping continues, citations will not be issued through December 26. If you have trash you want to get rid of right away, there are now five drop-off locations that are the 17371 Gothard Street Public Works Yard, Greer Park (6900 West McFadden Avenue), Edison Park (21377 Magnolia Street), Murdy Park (7000 Norma Drive), and Meadowlark Golf Club (16782 Graham Street). (CBS)
- The Circuit Pilot Program is coming to an end and the company wants you to let the city know what you think. It began July 13, when the all-electric, six-seat golf carts gave free rides to folks around downtown. Many locals loved it because it made getting around the area so easy. We learned Tuesday that the program needs your support if it is supposed to continue and become a permanent fixture. (FB)
- A Tuesday rain advisory is reminding residents to stay out of the ocean. After the rainfall, bacteria levels increase due to runoff from streets, storm drains, and regular trash piling up around drains. “Swimmers should avoid coastal waters and beach users should avoid contact with any runoff on the beach during dry or wet weather conditions.” (Patch)
- A shoutout to HB Lion Robert Sanchez! We learned Monday that he participated in the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event in November, which meant letting go of his long hair. In addition to championing this cause, he is also active at the Fountain Valley HS’s Leo Club. (HBN)
- The proposed HB Poseidon Water Desalination Plant is in the news again. When we last reported on it, the company was asking for a sweetheart deal. Today we learn that the company wants $1.1 billion of state money, which means that funding could be taken away from low-income housing programs. In addition, critics note that the “project would make water more expensive, isn’t worth the hiked cost on local ratepayers — especially in low-income communities — and would kill nearby marine life while damaging surrounding coastal ecosystems.” (Voice of OC)
