Need a reason to support your local schools? It’s officially American Education Week. The observance had its beginning in the aftermath of World War I.

The special election for mayor of San Diego to replace the resigned and disgraced Bob Filner is Tuesday. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Patch sites in San Diego will have complete coverage.
Wednesday
Members of the air ambulance crew Mercy Air will read to young people at Local Heroes Storytime at 10 a.m. at the library. Wednesday. Later that day, the library will hold Family Movie Night. Click here to learn more.

Wanting to quit smoking? You can do it with company on Thursday, the Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The society says tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US.

The band Turtle Click will perform at The Salty Frog and Imperial Beach raised artist and photographer Aaron Chang will open a new gallery at The Headquarters at Seaport District, a new commercial area in downtown San Diego.
