Access to one of San Diego's most impressive views and serene environments will resume Saturday,Β Β according to Anne Marie TiptonΒ with the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve.
People could walk or rideΒ on horseback to enter the state park in the past but Saturday will mark the first time in 2013Β vehicles can enter the park, Tipton said.
Vehicle access has been closed since last October due to flooding on a road that leads visitors to Monument Mesa and Friendship Park in the most southwestern corner of theΒ continental United States.
Grass and shadedΒ picnic tables atop Monument Mesa wereΒ replaced in 2012.
Access is limited to every Saturday and Sunday. The park will be open from 9:30am to 7pm. The fee is $5Β per vehicle.
Sewage contaminated water also kept the shoreline closed for near six months until the beach opened for the first time in 2013Β in late May.
