Construction Closes Port of Entry Lanes

Some southbound lanes of state Route 905 at the busy Otay Mesa land port of entry will be closed overnight starting Tuesday as U.S. General Services Administration crews work to install a canopy, according to the federal agency.

The canopy over the southbound lanes at the port of entry is part of an ongoing effort to provide increased security for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to the GSA.

Up to two or three of state Route 905's southbound lanes will be closed at a time between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday to accommodate the work but will reopen daily, GSA officials said.

Officials said that although there would be a reduction in southbound lanes available, state Route 905 would remain open and motorists would be able to cross the U.S.-Mexico border via the highway.

Signage will be in place to guide motorists and notify them of reduced speeds, authorities said, adding drivers should anticipate reduced speeds through the construction area.
