A burglar or burglars took copper from an air-conditioning unit on top of a classroom at Central Elementary School last week, said Sgt. Juan Marquez with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Imperial Beach substation.
The crime was reported at 2:38 p.m. July 1Â and is believed to have occurred between 12 p.m. June 30 and 2:20 p.m. July 1. No arrests have been made, Marquez said.
Copper coils were taken from the air-conditioning unit on the school's roof. The metal taken from the unit may be worth no more than $50 but the unit which may need to be replaced has an estimated value of $5,846.
"What they get out of it isn't very much but the damage they do is expensive," said Sgt. Joel Stranger.
Computers, a megaphone and other equipment were reported stolen from the school in April.
