One Arrest Made at Friday-Night DUI Checkpoint
Law enforcement agencies are stepping up DUI details as the New Year's holiday approaches.

Deputies conducting a DUI checkpoint in Imperial Beach Friday night made one DUI arrest and issued 10 citations for driving without a valid license, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The checkpoint operated at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Ninth Street between 8:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Of the 1,154 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, 1,089 were screened by deputies looking for signs of impairment and checking driver’s licenses, according to Sgt. Laura Spang.
Deputies directed 49 drivers to a secondary inspection area for further evaluation, according to Spang.

Friday night’s checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Questions regarding the checkpoint can be directed to the IB Traffic Unit, (619) 498-2400.
