Summer Sun Fun: June Events in Imperial Beach
A powwow, concerts, a kids sandcastle competition and surfing dogs are just a few of the activities happening in Imperial Beach in June.

As we welcome summer and celebrate Father's Day and graduations, Imperial Beach will see some of its best known annual events.Â
Here are six local events to enjoy with family or friends in Imperial Beach this month.

Summer Concert Series
When: 5-7 p.m., June 7Â Â
The Bayou Brothers will play their zydeco jams for at the Imperial Beach Farmers Market Friday. Their performance will be the first in a series of four summer concerts sponsored by the Imperial Beach Business Improvement District. Each concert is held the first Friday of the month through September.
Summer Surf Movie Series
When: June 8 at dusk
Sponsored by Urban Surf 4 Kids, an organization that encourages foster children to put on community service projects, the Summer Surf Movie Series will showcase free movies in Pier Plaza in June, July and August. This Saturday the group will show the movie Endless Summer.
Relay for Life
When: 9 a.m., June 8-9 Â
Bands will play music, food will be sold and costumes will be donned at this annual 24-hour walk-a-thon fundraiser to raise money to fight cancer will be held at Mar Vista High School.Â
Powwow by the Sea
When: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., June 15-16
Hosted by the Gastelum family and The Bridge, this annual two-day powwow in Pier Plaza invites Native Americans and tribes from across the region to attend.
Loews Surf Dog Competition
When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 22
Dogs will catch waves as part of the 8th annual competition to determine which dogs have the right skills to ride waves.
Sun & Sea Festival and Kids N' Kastles Sandcastle Competition
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30
The U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition is no more but sandcastles in Imperial Beach live on with the Sun & Sea Festival. Well-known teams like the I.B. Posse, Sand Squirrels and Archisand will build sculptures and kids will compete in the Kids N' Kastles Competition. There will also be vendors, circus acts and art.
