Rain Forecast to Continue Monday Evening

A large low-pressure system centered over Nevada sent scattered showers to the San Diego area Monday along with strong winds and cooler temperatures.

The blustery atmospheric pattern delivered light rainfall–a fifth of an inch or less–in coastal and inland-valley areas, while dropping up to two- thirds of an inch in the East County highlands, according to the National Weather Service.

Over the same 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m., Lindbergh Field got just a hundredth of an inch of moisture, the NWS reported.

Some of the system's heaviest downpours were expected to occur tonight, forecasters said.

A high-wind warning for mountain and desert locales was scheduled to be in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday. By afternoon, the rains were expected to be petering out, according to the weather service.

The storm may drop snow as low as the 5,000-foot mark before moving out of the region, the NWS reported.

A high-pressure zone is expected to begin building in the area Wednesday, bringing higher temperatures that will prevail into the weekend, according to the federal agency.
