South Bay Union School District Honored for Prop X Technologies

District modernization program receives Constructech Gold Vision Award.

The South Bay Union School District was recently honored with the Gold Vision Award from Constructech Magazine. The Constructech Vision Awards honor organizations that have realized the advantages of applying innovative technologies to everyday business.

The only public school district to receive the award this year, SBUSD received the highest level of honors (the Gold Award) for implementing leading-edge software technology to efficiently manage the schedule and budget for its $83.9 million construction bond program, Prop X.Β  Other Constructech honorees included Hill International for the $119 million renovation of the New York City Hall and the Regional Transportation District’s $6.7 billion FasTracks program, a comprehensive transit expansion throughout Denver.

South Bay Union School District has been committed to integrating modern technology throughout its campuses and processes. For example, the district has recently implemented interactive SMART Board technology in its campuses, which increases educational resource possibilities in the classroom and allows faculty and students to thrive in an interactive environment.

The district’s construction management company, SGI Construction Management, integrated Prolog, a robust program management tool. The Prolog system is used to efficiently manage all Prop X project information including, but not limited to, contracts, budgets, submittals, invoices, change orders and meeting minutes. The well-managed program has continually completed its campus renovation projects on time and on budget.

β€œWe are honored to accept the Constructech Gold Vision Award and receive recognition for the district’s forward-thinking construction management,” said Aby Saadat, assistant superintendent, business services, for SBUSD. β€œImplementing cutting-edge technologies helps the district efficiently manage the publicly-funded modernization of its campuses – ensuring that our tax dollars are wisely spent.”

Prop X is an $83.9 million school classroom, safety and repair measure approved by South Bay voters in November 2008 that is funding the repairs and improvements needed to ensure that the district’s 9,000 students are in a safe, healthy and quality learning environment.

The renovations will modernize classrooms, restrooms and cafeterias; improve handicap accessibility; make health and safety improvements and improve student access to computers and modern technology. For more information, visit www.buildingpropx.com.
