• Recruiters earn high marks with college outreach (ca.gov) — Mule Creek State Prison in Ione is one of several California prisons now hosting in-depth tours for college students as part of CDCR’s revamped recruitment program. Over 500 students statewide joined fall 2025 visits, hearing about correctional careers, salaries, and advancement while seeing daily operations firsthand. The program will expand in spring 2026, potentially drawing more young professionals to work in and around Ione.
