Additionally, many popular Laguna Beach local retailers will provide demos, used equipment and new items for purchase. Items on sale will include skimboards, snowboards, surfboards, wetsuits, stand-up paddleboards, bikes, golf clubs, tennis racquets, baseball gear, snow gear, cleats, balls of all sorts and more (hats, helmets, safety equipment and skis over 110 cm cannot be sold at the swap).

Melissa Roller, Sports Swap chair, invites the community to participate in this terrific event.

“The Sports Swap is not only a fundraiser, it’s a community event that provides families an opportunity to clean out their garages, make a little money, donate to Thurston’s PTA and outfit their growing children with up-to-date sports gear,” Roller said.

Donations are currently being accepted at all three Boys and Girls club locations. PTA volunteers will be at Thurston Middle School from 7–10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, as well as from 8–6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 to collect your gently used items. Sellers will set their own prices and PTA will sell the gear. For each item sold on consignment, Thurston will share the profits 50-50 and for items on full donation, Thurston will receive 100 percent of the profits.

The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach will be the recipient of any unsold, donated equipment at the end of the event. Score 4 the Poor, a homegrown charity coordinated by LBHS students, will be collecting used sports jerseys for kids in Honduras and Mexico. Thurston’s 8th grade graduation committee will be selling snacks and drinks to hungry shoppers and Laguna Beach Little League will host an in-person Spring registration table from 10 a.m.-noon.
