Laguna Beach PD Accepting Applicants For Citizens Academy

Applications must be submitted no later than August 31, 2016.

The Laguna Beach Police Department is accepting applications for the upcoming citizen’s academy. The academy starts Thursday, September 8, 2016a nd will meet from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for twelve weeks, ending on December 1, 2016.

The citizen’s academy is a non-stress course designed to provide community members with a better understanding of the Laguna Beach Police Department and to help foster better communications between police personnel and citizens. The academy will include instruction and practical exercises in the following areas:

  • Homeless Outreach Program
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • 9-1-1 Dispatch
  • Narcotics Identification
  • Police Canine Demonstration
  • Crime Prevention
  • Traffic Collision Investigation
  • DUI Demonstration
  • Police Unit Demonstration
  • Firearms Training
  • Traffic Stop Scenarios

The course will also include a tour of the Police Station, Fire Station and a trip to Orange County Jail.

To be considered for this program, you must be a resident of Laguna Beach or work within the city limits, be at least 18 years old and have no felony convictions. Applications must be submitted no later than August 31, 2016 (the City of Laguna Beach reserves the right to refuse admittance into this program).
