Woman Dies in Single-Car Crash On Canyon Road

UPDATE: Monday, July 16, 5:27 p.m.: Coroner's report now says that King was an Aliso Viejo resident, not a Laguna Beach resident.

ORIGINAL POST: A Laguna Beach woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car veered off an embankment of the inbound lanes of Laguna Canyon Road about one and a half miles north of the 73 toll road.

The woman has been identified as Sann King, 58, from Laguna Beach. She was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was pending Saturday.

King was alone at the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz at 3:52 p.m. when it went off the road, rolling over multiple times, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The cause of the accident isn't yet known, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

Traffic was backed up on the road heading into Laguna Beach for several hours, prompting the city to issue a traffic alert.
