Laguna Beach Woman Hurt in Fall in Grand Teton National Park

Jessica Haines, 21, was injured Saturday while hiking in the park. She was able to radio for help.

A Laguna Beach woman was injured over the weekend after falling down a rocky portion of a canyon during a hike in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park.

Jessica Haines, 21, was hiking Saturday afternoon in the Waterfalls Canyon area of the park when she fell vertically down a rocky 20-foot slope before coming to rest on a ledge. At the time of the incident, Haines was alone and separated from two hiking companions.

Because of her location and the extent of her injuries, Haines was unable to climb out. She was able to radio for help, however. A park ranger in the region heard her transmission, and a rescue response was soon initiated. Haines was airlifted off the ledge via emergency rescue helicopter about three hours after the accident, according to a National Park Service media release.
