Offbeat Tourists Invade Laguna Beach
The Columbus Day weekend attracted an African cheetah, assorted painters and a band of walkers lugging 50-pound bundles of wood.

A bevy of out-of-the-ordinary tourists rambled through Laguna Beach over the Columbus Day weekend.
The cast of characters included a and several dozen . One group we missed was a band of humans marching from San Diego to Los Angeles with 50-pound bundles of wood strapped to their backs.
On Saturday, they passed through Laguna Beach and Crystal Cove, drawing stares and questions. The goal was to promote the Paradigm Project, which distributes fuel stoves to impoverished nations.

Halting the use of wood fires for cooking saves trees and reduces the risk of respiratory illnesses from breathing smoke, organizers said.
The walkers started their 10-day journey Oct. 4 at Sea World. They hope to finish in Hollywood on Thursday.
